The Women Safety Division was established in May 2018 under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India to enhance measures for the safety of women across the country and to foster a heightened sense of security through the prompt and effective administration of justice. This Division aims to provide a safer environment for women by focusing on comprehensive and holistic approaches. The Division's mandate encompasses the development of policies, strategic planning, coordination, and the execution of projects and schemes. These initiatives are aimed at supporting States and Union Territories in realizing the aforementioned goals, which include enhancing the capabilities and modernization of forensic science facilities. The Division's responsibilities extend to addressing issues related to the prevention of crimes against women and children, individuals from Scheduled Castes and Tribes, the elderly, and the transgender community and also plays a pivotal role in matters associated with the National Crime Records Bureau.
